Reviewing a book of reviews?

The Cleveland Review of Books has reviewed (glowingly) a book titled Kevin Killian: Selected Amazon Reviews. Killian began writing reviews after suffering a heart attack around 2003. Killian was a member of the New Narrative Movement in the 1970s, and found a perfect outlet for his New Narrative writing in Amazon reviews.

Ranging from a Tiger Woods book about business practices to canned German potato salad to a cosmetics set named “The Multiple Orgasm Set II,” Killian’s reviews are far-reaching and often laden with literary, film, music, and other references. Some deep cuts, some more mainstream, but always accurate and appropriate to the subject at hand.

Having only read excerpts so far, I can’t necessarily recommend a 697-page book full of product reviews. But the excerpts are hilarious, insightful, deeply offbeat, and show a deep appreciation for the curious medium of this newly-minted art form.
